An Evening with Barbara

Last night I was fortunate enough to attend an intimate screening of Beyond BIBA, a documentary following the successes of Barbara Hulanicki after leaving the famous emporium that she created.

Barbara Hulanicki talks about BIBA, it's rise and it's demise but the film focuses largely on her new life in Miami, her turn from fashion designer to interior decorator. It is clear that she has incredible creative talent and passion with whatever she turns her hand to, with prestigious clients and famous renovations. The film progresses and shows her return to London to display her fashion illustrations, an exhibition I am truly sore to have missed. I have promised myself that one day I shall have a Hulanicki original print on my living room wall.

Following the show Barbara herself answered questions alongside Louis Price, the director and close friend it appeared. Although I was totally starstruck she came across so welcoming and seemed truly interested in all that everyone had to say. She offered advice and laughed and joked. She even loitered around the cameo bar for a couple after. Oh yes, did I mention she liked my brooch? Smitten.
